Leading the Blind

On February 18th, 2011, our lives were changed forever when our son Christian Taylor Buchanan entered the world. He was born with a bilateral cleft palate and lip and almost completely blind. This blog is the story of his life, the joys we share, the challenges we encounter, and the amazing and trying journey ahead of our family!

Touching Lives

There is no denying the explainable way that Christian draws people to him. The only way I can explain it is that he is so surrounded by and covered with the presence of God that people see the light of Christ shining, and they are unmistakably attracted to that light.

I literally cannot go grocery shopping, to the gas station, out to eat, or anywhere, without someone approaching and asking me about Christian. It used to bother me, as I have written about before, but now, I have turned these encounters into an opportunity to teach people or just to share how amazing Christian is.

It is simply amazing. I am constantly bombarded with messages, calls, texts, e-mails, etc. from people sharing how Christian has touched them, or how just seeing a picture of Christian has given them the opportunity to teach their children,  or encouraged them. The list goes on.

So I wanted to share some of these messages, letters, etc that I receive. Most of them bring tears to my eyes when I read them, some of them are funny, some of them are sweet, some of them are overwhelming. But what they all have in common is that they encourage me to keep doing every single day what I'm doing. So I want to share them with my readers!! So here goes! MeActions

    • Hey girl  I just finished reading my daughter a story before bed and then I was showing her some pictures of our friends and family on Facebook. We passed your status and she saw Christians picture and she ask who he was.
I explained to her you were a friend from when I was younger and had a son who was born blind; and I told her about his surgeries and how far he is come. Then I told her how important it is that anytime you see someone "different" to ALWAYS be their friend! We looked through your pictures and while doing so Madison said "Aww, he is so cute! Mommy, he only looks like that because GOD wants him to. He is very special." it melted my heart.

God Bless you and Christian and god bless how strong you both are.

    • The best part about it is that I am positive I didn't even need to tell her. She has such an awesome relationship with god at such a young age and shows nothing but love in all the right places

      Hope all is well!

The Right Choice Video

A week ago today I watched a video that I'd linked to from Facebook about a young woman named Lizzie. Lizzie used flash cards which cover her face during the video to tell her story. She told of her diagnosis with a syndrome that was so rare it was unnamed. It distorted her facial features and interfered with her ability to ...

She has been through ...
